May 20, 2024 is the 25th “World Metrology Day”. The International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) released the global theme of “World Metrology Day” in 2024 – “sustainability”.
World Metrology Day is the anniversary of the signing of “Metre Convention” on May 20, 1875. The “Metre Convention” laid the foundation for establishing a globally coordinated measurement system, providing support for scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing, international trade, as well as improving quality of life and global environmental protection. In November 2023, at the UNESCO General Conference, May 20 was designated as the International Day of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), declaring May 20 as “World Metrology Day” each year, which will significantly increase the world’s awareness of the role of metrology in daily life.
